Color & Abstraction-Art Exhibit

Local artist Ivy Stevens-Gupta to exhibit work at Tompkins Trust Company

ITHACA, NY, April 2017 – For those looking to welcome the colors associated with warmer weather, Ivy Stevens-Gupta’s vibrant paintings are currently at Tompkins Trust Company, Ithaca Commons, 110 N. Tioga Street. The exhibit is on display now through May 1, and is open for viewing during normal banking hours (Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM).

Stevens-Gupta’s solo exhibition, “Color & Abstraction,” celebrates the beauty and vibrancy of inventive designs with bold color palettes. Her work explores the principles of color theory with abstract expressionism. Stevens-Gupta is influenced by Kandinsky’s concentric circular paintings and Klimt’s use of gold leaf.

“Color plays an integral role when designing my work,” she said. “It has tremendous expressive qualities that can alter people’s moods.” Her 48” x 48” painting titled “Gender Blender,” examines the social construction of gender that is often associated with the colors blue and pink. “Cappuccino,” Steven-Gupta’s java-inspired work, conveys the duality of the arousing and aromatic benefits of the first morning cup with swirling brown, chocolate and caramel colors.

After studying art at Alfred University, Stevens-Gupta received a degree in business from Corning Community College, a BS in marketing and an MS in liberal studies from SUNY Empire State College and a certificate in interior design from Interior Design Institute. She is a former advertising manager for Gannett Newspaper Division and corporate relations director for Johnson at Cornell University.

Stevens-Gupta currently teaches color theory, painting and marketing. Her vibrant paintings can be found in homes and offices all over the world and have appeared in several books on contemporary international artists. Her Ithaca studio is open by appointment.
