The Candidate’s Experience and Improving Participatory Democracy in Ithaca and Tompkins County
“After speaking to hundreds of constituents including many government workers, we would like to share what we learned from our campaigns. We are holding a space for candidates and the public alike to speak openly about the experience of being an alternative party candidate, as an educational process in creating a more vibrant, democratic minded community."
You are invited to join a forum for candidates, public workers, local elected officials and the general public to reflect on the past election and the future of the participatory political space in Ithaca and Tompkins County.
One focus will be what candidates learned from constituents about the community and issues while on the campaign trail as well as the campaign process while running as a candidate from an ‘alternative’ party in a one-party dominated county.
The second focus is to identify common issues and determine how we can transform our political environment to encourage participation in the political process to create a more vibrant community. There will be time for community input and brainstorming about how to improve participatory democracy in Tompkins County both during and after election season.
