TCPL Identity Exhibits KickOff & Meet the Artist-in-Residence

The Tompkins County Public Library is hosting a special night of events on Gallery Night, Friday, February 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00pm to kick off the 2018 “Identity” theme exhibits and introduce the inaugural Artist-in-Residence, Frances Gallardo.

View "Embodying the Familiar," the first exhibit, curated by emerging curator Kendra Acquavella, which investigates how stories and culture form women's identities. This exhibit was made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

An all-female stand-up comedy program will start at 6:45pm in the Ezra Cornell Reading Room featuring Deirdre Mollura and Vanessa Okoyeh opening for Madelein Smith. (May contain mature content.) The Open Art Hive will have hands-on opportunities to participate in creating art.  Visitors can help weave a community tapestry in the Teen Center set up by fiber artist Sarah Gotowka.

This Gallery Night is also an opportunity to meet the TCPL's first ever Artist-in-Residence, Frances Gallardo, who will be on-hand to talk about her work and her vision for the Artist-in-Residence program. Gallardo received an “Artist in Community Grant,” a program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

The party moves to Lot 10 at 8pm for a Dance for the Arts dance party with DJ Hipster Dad to raise funds for the arts at TCPL. (Under 21 allowed until 9pm.
